About me

Having investigated over 3000 vehicle fires and 280 non-fire incidents during my 25 years for a well-known automobile manufacturer. I have led investigations in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, UK, Spain, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Greece, France, and Germany. This extensive field experience, together with the vast amount of product information, has given me unique expertise for vehicle fire and defect investigations.

Ongoing training

There has been constant and ongoing external fire training in addition to daily updates/training on production and potential design issues. This experience has allowed me to conduct comprehensive laboratory analysis, in-house fire propagation, product and alleged defect testing.

Many manufacturers use the same supplier and often the same components. Some products have additional components from 2nd tier suppliers. Whilst some cases of failure are inherently different due to the differing applications and packaging, there are many that are the same cause.

All vehicle fires or potential defects should be reported to the manufacturer and investigated by them using experienced and qualified fire or defect engineers together with an insurer-instructed experienced forensic engineer. Manufacturers are obliged to ensure their customers are not using vehicles that may be dangerous. Each incident traumatises customers and leaves them and their insurers out of pocket. If the causation is due to a vehicle or design defect, the manufacturer must accept full liability.

Due to the possible complexities of any defect or fire forensic investigation, it cannot be overstated that an experienced engineer should be instructed in all viable cases.
